Preventing and Managing Illness
Preventing and Managing Illness
The rationale for illness prevention involves strengthening the mucous membranes, neutralizing bacterial endotoxins and viral proteins, and clearing the lymphatics.
The mucous membranes form the primary barrier against microbial invasion and must be healthy in order to prevent illness. If they have been compromised and an infection has begun, it is then imperative to neutralize the endotoxins and proteins of the offending organism because these are the means by which an illness is perpetuated. Endotoxins are protein-based substances which damage tissue and assist in establishing an environment for additional colonies. Viruses are different. In addition to the cellular waste products generated by their infections, they contain unique protein-based shells (capsids), structural proteins, and functional proteins which enable them to penetrate and infect cells. Finally, if an infection seems to be getting established, the lymphatics and immune functions must be supported.
Diet Recommendations: The foundation for illness prevention is diet. Proper dietary practices are essential for maintaining healthy mucous membranes. The worst offenders are acidic and astringent foods which irritate and damage the mucosal barrier thereby enabling bacteria and viruses to enter into the circulation. Therefore at the first sign of an illness it is imperative that all acidic foods be avoided. This includes all sugar, honey, black pepper, fresh and pickled ginger, all citrus, bananas, pineapple, melons, fruit juices, vinegar, tomatoes, salsa, onions, eggplant, nuts, nut butters, seeds, soy protein, yogurt, cheese, popcorn, chips, black tea, coffee, colas, soft drinks, alcohol, and wine. Next, foods should be added to the diet that support healing. This includes fruit sauces, fresh broths made from breast of chicken with the bones, vegetable soups, all cooked vegetables, white fish, cooked egg whites, and lean meats are supportive. Non-acidic fruits are helpful and include sweet apples (Fuji, Gala, red and golden delicious), pears, apricots, peaches, grapes. In addition to diet there is a specific protocol for strengthening the mucous membranes as well as neutralizing the offending organism and toxins. Finally, it is really true that you want to ‘feed a cold and starve a fever!’
Mucosa
ReBuild: strengthens the mucous membranes and promotes healthy mast cell functions which helps to keep the infection on the surface.
Beta Carotene 25,000IU: strengthens the mucosa, improves the function of B-Lymphocytes, increases the production of and enhances the function of Helper T-Cells, and increases the number of T-Lymphocytes.
AllerAct: provides nutrients to manage the mucosal irritation caused by the infecting organism and stabilize venous circulation which helps to prevent infiltration by the infectious organism. The main indicator for AllerAct is a runny nose with clear mucous.
Proteotoxin Neutralization:
Enzyme Pro: helps to eliminate proteotoxins which cause sinus congestion, bacterial infections, and produce thick yellow or green mucous secretions.
BromoPlex: alleviates inflammations, redness, mucosal soreness, clear runny nose
PanPro: neutralizes the proteotoxins responsible for causing fevers.
WoboPlex: used to dissolve the proteotoxins that cause pain including earaches, painful joints, headaches, sinus congestion with pain, bronchitis, and sore muscles.
Lymphatic Treatments:
L-G-K-S: stimulates the flow of lymphatics, promotes the elimination of lymphatic toxins, and binds with foreign substances to facilitate their removal through the kidneys and liver. Swollen tonsils and lymph nodes, congested ears, dizziness, stiffness and sore muscles upon waking, generally feeling worse in the AM are indicators for L-G-K-S.
NuLymph: has a natural antibiotic effect and is used for all infections.
MicroBac 2: has a natural antibiotic effect for mold and bacteria when the infection seems to be localized in the throat, sinuses, bronchitis, and ears.
Additional Support:
Folic Acid 800mcg: used for general soreness and sensitivities during an illness. This includes hypersensitive skin, teeth, and even hair. Take 2 to 4 three times a day.
Electrolyte 1 or 2: normalizes hydration when fevers and excess perspiration, or frequent urination have occurred. Weakness, headachy, feeling lightheaded, and dry mouth develop. Take 1 to 2 three times a day.
BioCarb: if excess acidity develops during an illness symptoms associated with the sensation of burning are present. Cracked lips, cold sores, canker sores, red and irritated nasal passages that make it painful to breath, restlessness, and trouble getting comfortable are associated with getting too acidic. Take 1 to 2 two times a day.
Echinacea Products and Throat Sprays: these help to soothe irritated mucous membranes and stimulate immune functions. Sprays can be used 4 to 6 times a day.
Sample Protocol for Illness Management:
Initial Onset
Avoid acidic and irritating foods
BromoPlex: 2 capsules 4 times a day
ReBuild: 2 capsules 4 times a day
Beta Carotene 25,000IU: 1 capsule 4 times a day
L-G-K-S: 1 capsule 4 times a day
Echinacea Product
Cold or Flu
Add the appropriate enzyme for the symptoms at 1 capsule 4 times a day
NuLymph: 1 capsule 4 times a day
Fever
Diet: only broths, water, and a little fruit sauce.
Add PanPro: 1 capsule 4 times a day
Add Electrolytes: 1 capsule 4 times a day
Coughs
MicroBac 2: Chew 1 tablet 4 times a day
AllerAct: 1 capsule 4 times a day
Managing children under the age of 10 during an illness is exactly the same with reduced dosages. Generally, the pills or capsules can be split in half and given in apple sauce if the child has difficulty swallowing pills.
